Hidden deep beneath the beautiful New Zealand countryside is an amazing cave that very few ever get to see. The Waitomo Cave hosts thousands upon thousands of glow worms that light up the cave ceiling light a beautiful night sky.
The species of glow worm that lights up the cave can only be found in new Zealand, the scientific name is Arachnocampa luminosa, however the more popular name is the ‘New Zealand Glow Worm’. These strange creepy-crawlies use a silk-like thread to trap the bugs the prey on. The hungrier they are the brighter they will glow in the hope of attracting a fresh meal.
